Postpartum Support International PSI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote awareness, prevention and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing in every country worldwide.
1.800.944.4PPD (4773) – PSI’s toll-free HelpLine serves over 1,000 callers a month and is staffed by a volunteer team of PSI trained responders who rapidly refer callers to appropriate local resources, including emergency services. The HelpLine also offers Spanish-language support – press 1 for Spanish. Participants may also text this HelpLine, beginning November of 2020 (Spanish-speaking individuals may text 971-420-0294).
Support Groups —PSI support groups are led by trained PSI facilitators. They will connect you with other parents and provide helpful tools and resources. PSI offers over 50 free online support groups.
The Menopause Society The Menopause Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the health and quality of life of all women during midlife and beyond through an understanding of menopause and healthy aging. They offer guides and a searchable database of menopause clinicians to patients and consumers.
National Maternal Mental Health Hotline provides free, confidential support, resources, and referrals from professional counselors to pregnant and postpartum individuals facing mental health challenges 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Counselors offer support in English and Spanish and interpreter services are available in 60 additional languages. Call (833) 852-6262.
Mother to Baby a service of the non-profit Organization of Teratology Information Specialists (OTIS), is the nation’s leading authority and most trusted source of evidence-based information on the benefit or risk of medications and other exposures during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. They specialize in answering questions about the benefit/risk of exposures, such as medications, vaccines, chemicals, herbal products, substances of abuse, maternal health conditions and much more, during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Pregnancy After Loss Support a non-profit organization and community support resource for women experiencing the confusing and conflicting emotions of grief mixed with joy during the journey through pregnancy after loss. PALS seeks to help expectant mothers celebrate their current pregnancy by choosing hope over fear while still nurturing and honoring the grief over the loss of their deceased child.
PALS services include an online magazine, online peer-moderated support groups, local meet-ups, outreach and education through speaking and tabling at professional conferences, resource listings for families and healthcare providers, and a newsletter.
MGH Center for Women’s Mental Health The Reproductive Psychiatry Information Resource Center was developed as a way of providing critical up-to-date information for patients in the rapidly changing field of women’s mental health. Articles from scientific literature and commentary by Center staff are presented across a range of topics and address critical questions faced by patients and clinicians as they weigh options regarding clinical care.
The Center for Women’s Mental Health at the Massachusetts General Hospital also has a research program which allow them to add to the limited knowledge about the effects of both treated and untreated mood disorder on a woman and her child.
